The View

By |2018-02-02T12:10:27-05:00February 3, 2015 4:12 pm|

Volatility has increased dramatically over the last 2 months with barely any net movement on the SP500 since September (+20 points).  In the last 2 months we have seen a series of straight up and down moves that last 4-7 days.  December started with the SP500 pulling back -5.14% in 7 days, followed by a +6.13% in the following 8 days, then down -4.68% in the next 5 days, up 2.9%, down 3.58%, for net move of -4.06% (1/30 close) since 12/5/14 and flat since September. For swing traders who have a time frame of 0-20 days getting bullish when the [...]

Allow Me To Introduce You To

By |2018-02-02T12:10:27-05:00January 13, 2015 10:19 am|

It seems like the Biotech sector has become the can’t miss sector of 2015, everything I read and hear is bullish, and probably rightfully so.  Many of the big cap biotechs make a ton of money and have fantastic pipelines. However, stocks/sectors go up AND down not up OR down, and it seems to me that many believe that biotech is now a one way street, up. The biotech sector without a doubt has reached the acceptance stage after 5 years and a 360% move (NBI-X), and its probably getting to the euphoric stage.Allow me to introduce you to $BIS.ProShares UltraShort [...]

The V Bottom PlayBook

By |2018-02-02T12:10:28-05:00January 11, 2015 7:29 am|

The V bottom has become a phenomenon, one that has frustrated a lot of traders and probably a well known financial publication.  It started mid 2012 and by my count it has happened 8 times and we are working on the ninth.  Very simply, the V bottom is one where the market pulls back in a straight line down, freaks out investors/traders and gives them the feeling that this is the big correction that we’ve all been waiting for, and then it miraculously snaps back in a straight line up to a new high like if nothing ever happened.  There [...]

What You Need To Know To Make Money In 2015

By |2018-02-02T12:10:28-05:00January 3, 2015 8:06 am|

So what do you think is going to happen this year?  This is the most common question asked at the beginning of every year.  No one knows, it’s all guess work.  Who in 2013 predicted Ebola, V bottoms, a down December, oil crashing, the destruction of high growth tech names in March/April, the sell off in energy names, etc…You don’t need to know what is going to happen 12 months from now to make money in the market. You don’t need to know what is going to happen 12 months from now to outperform the market. You don’t need to know what [...]

Why Financial Advisors Don’t Show Their Returns

By |2018-02-02T12:10:29-05:00December 27, 2014 8:07 am|

Financial Advisers: Show Us Your Numbers was an article written by Jason Zweig a couple of months ago that did not get much press, its mind boggling actually,  especially now when everyone with a blog is consider a pro and guru.  Here is a short excerpt from the piece.“If you want to know the track record of a mutual fund or exchange-traded fund, you can look it up in a matter of seconds online.  But what about the track record of a financial adviser who is offering to pick investments for you?  “I have to think investors would want to know that, [...]

What You Can and Cannot Control In Trading

By |2018-02-02T12:10:30-05:00December 6, 2014 7:50 am|

You can control how much money you put behind the idea. You can control which markets you trade in.You can control how much you are willing to risk per trade barring any gap downs, or halt situations that might impact you negatively. You can control what type of stocks you buy, big caps, only small caps, only over $20, only under $10, etc…You can control what type of set ups you buy.You can control when you get in or out, barring a halt. You can’t control the outcome of the trade. You can’t control how the market will react to news, try not to [...]
