Six Bases Worth Keeping An Eye On

By |2019-11-19T09:19:58-05:00November 19, 2019 8:32 am|

$ENDP, $CBT, $GNK, $BIDU, $ULTA and $RAD are six stocks that are trying to emerge from bases. I’m always intrigued by bases because, typically, a prolonged period of contraction leads to an extended period of expansion. We have covered bases extensively here (SEE BELOW) on the blog, and they are one of my favorite set-ups. Stan Weinstein, the author of Secrets For Profiting In Bull And Bear Markets, has a great definition of the “basing area,” specifically the ones that are formed after several down months. The Basing Area: “After XYZ has been declining for several months, it eventually will [...]

Swing Trading ROKU

By |2019-10-30T19:40:53-04:00October 30, 2019 1:03 pm|

Swing trading is a strategy that looks to take advantage of the movement of stocks in the short-term. Many, if not all, stocks move in small bursts that may last 1-10 days, the returns that you might achieve within the bursts have to do a lot with the current market environment.  Swing traders look to take advantage of that by shooting for smaller gains, cutting losses quicker, and repeating this over and over again. Consistent smaller profits can compound into excellent annual returns. By smaller gains, I mean 5-15% within the burst. One of the best ways to look for [...]

Forget About New Highs

By |2019-10-18T13:20:04-04:00October 18, 2019 1:18 pm|

New Highs are entirely relative to your timeframe and how much heat you are willing to take immediately after. It ain't always sunshine and rainbows when something hits "BLUE SKY TERRITORY." Take a look at the Semiconductor ETF chart below ($SMH), and you can see that new highs in the sector have led to short-term pain instead of an all-clear signal that all is well. Click to ENLARGE and read the notes. You can see a similar pattern in the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P500. Sometimes it is best to curb your new high enthusiasm. Whether or not this most [...]

What a Week

By |2019-10-08T10:28:28-04:00October 5, 2019 8:57 am|

The Market started this week somewhat strong, on Monday, the indices we up +.50% or more across the board. The only issue was that breadth was weak, a lot weaker than it should've been for a +.50% day. We ended the day with 150 stocks down -4% or more vs. 78 that closed up +4% or more; these are not the type of numbers you want to see when the market is up +.50%.   On Tuesday, we started on a positive note, but that quickly changed when the Manufacturing numbers came out at 10:00 am; they were weak, according [...]

The Streak Continues, 24 out of 30

By |2019-09-29T07:31:59-04:00September 29, 2019 7:30 am|

Not one person on financial twitter did not know that last week historically has been the weakest week for last 30 years. From @QuantifiableEdges; "As I have shown many times in the past, there isn’t a more reliable time of the year to have a selloff than this upcoming week. I have often referred to is as “The Weakest Week.” Since 1960 the week following the 3rd Friday in September has produced the most bearish results of any week". For the week the S&P 500 lost -1.0%, the Nasdaq shed -2.2%, and the Russell 2000 was down -2.4%, there's no [...]
